Eastern Partnership Countries

The Eastern Partnership Countries are important neighbours for the EU in general and Austria in particular.

ZSI works in the six countries in the region of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine) since many years. Our particular focus there is on strategically strengthening the development of international research and technology cooperation and to contribute to the modernisation of national and supra-national research and innovation systems.

Together with our comprehensive partner network in the target countries, we have been analysing and assessing the performance of the research and innovation systems of the Eastern Partnership Countries through diverse approaches, such as co-publication analysis, statistical analysis based on large surveys, qualitative approaches including expert interviews, policy dialogues, benchmarking, etc. We have organised the S&T Policy Mix Peer Review in Moldova, and our experts were involved in S&T Policy Mix Peer Reviews in Armenia (under the mandate of UNECE) and Georgia. Moreover, ZSI contributes to capacity building in the field of science, technology, and innovation; research management and social innovation management; as well as policy and strategy development in the field of eGovernment and Science, Technology, and Innovation.

More information about our flagship projects, e.g. several BILAT projects with Ukraine under FP7 and Horizon 2020 coordinated by ZSI; BLACK SEA HORIZON, a strategic project to enhance the bi-regional cooperation between the EU and the Black Sea countries in the field of research and innovation, funded by the EC under HORIZON 2020 and coordinated by ZSI; ener2i, a project funded by the EC and coordinated by ZSI, which focused on the identification of innovative and sustainable solutions to secure energy supply, and to increase energy efficiency through stimulating innovative activities in the field of renewable energy in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova.
