The Academy of Sciences of Moldova is the main public institution of the national importance in the field of research and innovation, the plenipotentiary coordinator of research, educational and innovation activity, higher scientific forum and scientific consultant of public authorities in the Republic of Moldova.

In accordance with the Law on Science and Innovation, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova defines and implements R&D policies in the Republic of Moldova, including international cooperation. Due to this quality, ASM develops relations with international organizations as ALLEA, NATO, BSEC, CRDF, STCU, COST and others.

The Center of International Projects (CIP), is an auxiliary public institution of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), which promotes and manages bilateral and multilateral programs in science and innovation launched within Cooperation Agreements between ASM and various international organizations and foundations. Since its inception, CIP has managed around 250 bilateral projects under Cooperation Agreements with the following organizations. Russian Fund for Basic Research; Russian Fund for Humanitarian Research; Byelorussian Republican Fund for Basic Research; Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany; National Authority for Scientific Research of Romania; National Council for Research of Italy. In 2012 were announced the new bilateral grant competitions withGermany, France, Italy, Romania and Belarus with an overarch priorities to demonstrate participation in FP7 and connect research with industry. CIP provides managerial, technical, financial and legal assistance to members of Moldovan scientific community, as well as for Moldovan Diaspora members, including consulting activities, seminars, trainings and other activities in the framework of international and bilateral projects.
