Austrian Research and Technology Reports 2023-2026

What you always wanted to know about science, research and innovation in Austria - here it comes!

The annual Austrian Research and Technology Report is a report by the ministries (resp. the federal government), written by experts, which describes significant developments in science and innovation in Austria as well as Austria's role and position in European RTI policy.

The annual Austrian Research and Technology Reports are dedicated to current national and international research and technology policy issues through analyses of current developments and trends and the preparation of extensive data material on research and development. Since 2020, an annual monitoring of the central research and research funding institutions listed in the Research Funding Act has been part of the report, which allows for an overall systemic view of state-funded research funding and implementation.

The legal basis for the preparation of the research and technology reports is found in the Research Organisation Act (FOG), Federal Law Gazette No. 341/1981. By 1 June of each year, pursuant to § 8 (1), a status report on research, technology and innovation in Austria funded from federal funds must be submitted to the National Council by the respective federal ministers for education, science and research in agreement with the respective federal ministers for climate protection, the environment, energy, mobility, innovation and technology and the respective federal ministers for labour and economy. In accordance with § 8 (2), a comprehensive report on the needs of research, technology and innovation in Austria shall be submitted by the Federal Government to the National Council at three-year intervals.
