WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU?
Stećak (plural stećci) is a unique cultural heritage in South-East Europe and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The STECCI Summer Academy in Split provides expert input for future teachers (students from all disciplines) and hands-on citizen science experiments in the context of the unique cultural heritage of stećci. During the one-week programme in Split, participants test innovative and art-based approaches for cultural heritage transdisciplinary research that can be used for school teaching or informal learning and socially inclusive cultural heritage management and preservation.
The Summer Academy is two-fold: Beside an academic programme with expert input and peer learning on cultural heritage and citizen science, science communication, preservation, geology, cultural tourism as well as valorisation strategies and placemaking, the programme brings together students and children (and their families) for citizen science activities in Cista Provo – a stećci site near Split.

ABOUT THE STECCI PROJECT
The project creates sustainable protection strategies for cultural heritage from the climate change impact and consequential natural hazards, environmental pollution, and anthropogenic threats. By means of an interdisciplinary approach, the future of medieval tombstones and similar stone monuments across Europe will be assessed in the context of a changing climate and under two climate scenarios in three periods. Moreover, STECCI co-creates together with its stakeholder’s community-led strategies for placemaking and a sensitive valorisation focusing on cultural tourism and new cultural routes.
