Acronym: EKO-SUSTAV

EKO-SUSTAV waste management LTD was founded in 2008 by the Vukovar-Srijem County, Croatia. The main task foresees managing the future waste management centre in the Municipality of Stari Jankovci. The construction of a complete waste management system including the implementation of EU directives arises from provisions of Republic of Croatia Waste management strategy (Official Gazette: NN 130/05) and from Republic of Croatia Waste management Plan in period 2007 - 2015 (Official Gazette: NN 85/07).

The company is 100% financed and owned by the Vukovar-Srijem County. Furthermore EKO-SUSTAV has initiated the constructions of four biogas/biomass power plants, which raw material basis is wood biomass (forest wood residue) for combustion in biomass plants. For combustion in biogas plants the raw material consists of animal excrements with stable residues, green-grass silage, corn silage, food remains, crops for primary energy production and all other forms of herbal, wood and animal origin.

Also EKO-SUSTAV is involved in environment protection and energy saving projects in the county. The director is managing the green office in the City of Vukovar for the whole Vukovar-Srijem County. EKO-SUSTAV has recognized that energy efficiency is creating preconditions for development of competitive and sustainable economy with protection of environment.

The company has ongoing cooperation with the Environmental protection and energy efficiency Fund in Zagreb regarding projects for the installation of solar systems on private objects as well as the installation of photovoltaic systems on county owned buildings, adaptation of objects in Vukovar-Srijem County in order to reduce energy losses and create better utilization of energy. The project of education of Vukovar-Srijem County residents in waste management is also ongoing.
