Successful Workshop - Policy Dialog about Gender and Migration

23. Nov. 2009

This all-day workshop‘s objective was to investigate possible structural improvements in the dialogue between political decision makers and researchers. 25 representatives of our target groups followed the ZSI’s invitation and took part in the meeting. •
Generally, the problem is not a lack of research but the question of ‘receiving’ its results: Due to their enormous amount, it is impossible to process all research findings. Also, research only rarely offers concrete suggestions for implementation. Political decision makers, however, need research to make problem-solving recommendations. It became clear that representatives of government departments are sometimes unsure whether dealing with certain research findings falls within their competence or not.
Policy makers said they gained from the presentation because the focus was put back on essential issues and because facts are important for any political discussion. In their political work, they can draw on the presented research findings and scientific literature.
The workshop is video-documented.
