Mobilis Science Center (Hungary)

a new science center in Győr

Acronym: MOBILIS

During this short period of time more than 150 schools and kindergartens have visited Mobilis, mainly from the region (approx. 50%), but also from all over Hungary, and from Slovakia. Györ is the centre of the Hungarian automotive industry. Building on Győr’s technical and industrial heritage, and high-tech automotive presence, Mobilis focuses on the scientific and technological concepts related to transport and vehicles, doing so to engage visitors with the industry and draw attention to exciting potential (engineering and/or science) career paths in the industry. Mobilis (100% Győr City municipality owned non-profit organisation) operates out of a brand new building located on the campus of Széchenyi István University of Győr. The more than 3,000 sq metre building has a 1,200 sq metre main exhibition area where visitors can see 74 interactive exhibits all related to increasing the understanding of more complex phenomena related to vehicles, the automotive industry, transportation, mobility and motion. In addition to the exhibits, the Center also regularly organises science shows as part of its core activity. Beyond this it organises hands-on practical workshops for smaller groups of people. In addition to the possibilities of individual learning and experimenting offered by the interactive exhibits during the science shows, visitors can also create and participate in experiments. Hands-on workshops are the main tools for “experiencing science” and creating something. The Center also frequently participates in popular events (school and community gatherings, etc), where it offers direct ways for participants to try out the experiments.
