Cooperation Partners

University of Montenegro (Montenegro)

Largest University in Montenegro with dedicated international experience

Acronym: UM-IRO

As the biggest and most important research performer in the country, through its more than three decades long experience, the University has positioned itself as a reliable partner both in the country and in the SEE region. Thanks to that, the University has well established cooperation with all national stakeholders in the fields of research and innovation, often providing its expertise to their initiatives and activities and participating in respective national councils and committees. Cooperation with industry, though reduced over past years due to the overall situation, is now in the process of regaining its former strength. Next, UoM has traditionally good cooperation with partners from WBC and SEE through different projects and programmes.

The University of Montenegro is a comprehensive research and higher education institution, comprised of 19 faculties and 3 research institutes. Being the biggest and most important research performer in the country, the UoM has participated and coordinated important initiatives on national, regional and international level. These activities are being carried out either on the level of different faculties and institutes, or on central level (Rectorate and University management and administration).
Since its establishment in 1974, the UoM has participated in many bilateral, multilateral and EC funded projects, within different support schemes.
Montenegro as a country started participating in FP as of the last year of FP6, and UoM has so far been involved in about 10 projects, mainly CSAs (Capacities, People). Next, around 40 projects have so far been approved within TEMPUS programme, including initiatives that broaden the focus on research and innovation (2008 call -`Opening Universities Towards Society`, dealing with strengthening the knowledge triangle; `Development of R&D Services`, focused among others, on development of support for strengthening cooperation with industry and innovation stakeholders)
Two projects currently dealing with QA at the UoM (`NQF and QA in Higher Education in Montenegro` - IPA 2007, component I, and `Introduction of QAS`, supported by WUS-Austria) are broadening focus from QA in HE to research as well.
In March 2010, a first institutional evaluation in the field of research at the UoM was completed, within an FP7 REGPOT project - EVOLUNIMONT. The panel of international experts carried out the evaluation, with University management and project team deeply involved in the process.
In 2007, the re-accreditation of the UoM took place, mostly regarding its HE function, but it again provided relevant experience in the field of evaluation.
Apart from these funding sources, the UoM participates in NATO SPS programme and other as UN supported projects etc.
