Announcement: EULAKS conference on the Latin American and European Perspectives on the Social Science - Policy Nexus in the Evolving Knowledge Society

As a major milestone of the EULAKS project a conference on the current and future challenges that arise for Europe and Latin America from the emergence of knowledge societies in both regions will be organised on June 8-9, 2009 in Vienna. EULAKS is a project financed by the European Commissions Seventh Framework programme on Research and Technological Development.

The conference is titled Latin American and European Perspectives on the Social Science - Policy Nexus in the Evolving Knowledge Society and will be carried out in English in the Trend Hotel Savoyen.

The keynotes and contributions from panellists during the first day of the conference will be focused on the challenges in the construction of knowledge societies. During the second day, policy perspectives and the role of the social sciences in public policy development will be discussed. The closure of the conference will be a plenary debate on what the social sciences and humanities can offer to policymakers in the knowledge society.

The conference will enable high-level exchange of expertise on priority topics related to the role of the social sciences in the development of public policy agendas for emerging knowledge societies in both regions.

The target audience of this event are social science research communities as well as governmental and non-governmental stakeholders interested in a multidisciplinary understanding of the key dynamics of knowledge societies in a European - Latin American perspective.
