Background
ZSI is a private non-profit institute for applied social sciences and a Centre of Excellence for social innovation based in Vienna (Austria). ZSI implements research and application projects on the social embedding and impact of all types of innovations and contributes to the design and diffusion of socially accepted and sustainable innovations to meet global challenges.
The advertised position as research assistant is located in the department of “Technology and Knowledge”. Along its core competences in research, evaluation and monitoring, education and science communication, as well as project management and coordination, the unit “Technology and Knowledge offers services for clients such as i) user requirements analysis, user centred design, technology assessment, ii) social scientific, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies on the emergence, dissemination and impact of socio-technical and socio-ecological topics, iii) evaluation studies, iv) development and application of participatory methods and stakeholder engagement, v) development and support of regional and thematic knowledge networks and regional development, vi) planning and implementation of workshops, symposiums, and scientific conferences, and vii) project coordination and management.
We are searching for a research assistant who supports us in the Horizon Europe project FOODITY, which aims at contributing to a dynamic ecosystem of digital solutions for food and nutrition that respects citizens’ right to personal data sovereignty. ZSI is responsible for social scientific background research on citizen awareness and perception of data rights, for the engagement of food system actors and stakeholders, for citizen engagement and empowerment as well as training and coaching of pilot teams.
Tasks
The research assistant will support and assist in the following:
- Social scientific background research:
- Identification of critical issues based on Eurobarometer
- Systematic literature review
- End-User research
- Preparation of training materials
- Workshop organisation (photo voice workshops, trainings, group coaching)
- Development of materials, guidelines and reports
- Conducting semi-structured interviews and transcription
- Attending meetings and workshops
Expected experience
- Completed bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanities, or similar
- First experience in qualitative research methods
- Experiences in quantitative research methods is an asset
- Interest in participatory processes, training, and coaching
- Openness for business travels
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
