Founded in 1860, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC) is the oldest higher education institution in Romania, carrying on a tradition of excellence and innovation in the fields of education and research. In 2018, UAIC was listed in the top 500 Shanghai Global Ranking 2018 (ARWU) for the field Engineering for 2 subjects: Material Science &Engineering and Chemical Engineering; and the field Natural Sciences for 1 subject Mathematics. UAIC is listed in the 3rd position in the National Classification of Accredited University, with the title of university of "advanced research and teaching". As a public university, UAIC is organised into 15 faculties each with a research department, an Interdisciplinary Research Institute, 18 Research Centres, 5 resorts for research and student practice, Botanical Garden and University Museum. Currently, Iasi is a vibrant city with 367,000 inhabitants and our university enrols more than 22 600 students. UAIC currently has about 1856 employees, of which 730 are teaching staff and 95 are research personnel. UAIC has institutional collaboration with 481 universities from 57 countries. UAIC is a member of the Coimbra Group, EUA, Utrecht Network, IAU and AUF and is involved in scientific partnerships with: COST networks, EUROCHAMP-2020, ACTRIS, FuseNet, Informatics Europe Consortium, SHARE-ERIC, UACES, ECPR. The University is an experienced coordinator/partner in European projects: 7 H2020, 27 COST actions, 14 FP7, 2 CIP, CERN, EURATOM-RO Fusion programs, other. Over 150 national research projects run every year. The researchers have access to the most important on-line libraries (Science Direct, Thomson ISI, Springer, IOP, AIP). In 2011 the University adhered to the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and, as a result of the implementation process, was awarded by European Commission with HR Excellence in Research logo in 2014.
