SRI International (United States)

Research Institute in the USA

Acronym: SRI

SRI International is a non‐profit independent research and development institute dedicated to the discovery and the application of science and technology for knowledge, commerce, prosperity, and peace. Headquartered in Menlo Park in the Silicon Valley region of California, SRI provides a critical bridge between fundamental science and its application. Our offerings range from basic and applied research to laboratory and advisory services, technology development and licenses, deployable systems, new products, and venture opportunities.
SRI International was founded as Stanford Research Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, by Stanford University in 1946. SRI moves R&D from the laboratory to the marketplace to create high value and real innovation. For example, an artificial intelligence project for DARPA led to the development of
Siri for Apple’s iPhone. The Center for Science, Technology and Economic Development (CSTED) at SRI is an applied research center focused on helping public and private sector organizations to formulate strategies and policies so that investments in science, technology and innovation are transformed into increased competitiveness, prosperity, and social benefit. Based in Washington, D.C., the Center is staffed with experienced professionals who conduct research, analysis, program evaluation, and strategic planning. The team provides services to private and public sector clients around the world.
Through the Science and Technology Policy Program, the Center (i) assesses the impact and effectiveness of science and technology program, (ii) develops new tools to measure science and innovation and (iii) aids the planning and evaluation of research programs and institutions.

The Center uses a multi‐dimensional research approach, which may include surveys, case studies, analyses of publications and patents, expert interviews, literature reviews, data analyses, strategic planning, and other quantitative and qualitative methods.
