The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), founded in 1959, is a non‐profit professional society dedicated to advancing the field of research administration through education and professional development programs, and by the sharing of knowledge and experience. With over 7,000 members from over 900 colleges, universities, teaching hospitals and research institutes, NCURA’s primary mission is carried out in numerous ways: three yearly national conferences with attendance ranging from 400 to over 2,000; over 30 training workshops that travel throughout the USA each year; webinars; podcasts; televised training workshops on DVD; on‐line training tutorials; NCURA Magazine, published six times a year with numerous articles on research management issues; a professional journal, Research Management Review; and other publications dedicated to specific research management topics. NCURA is actively involved in furthering communication and understanding between research administrators both within and outside the USA. This year, NCURA’s Global Fellowship in Research Management program awarded grants to five of its members to travel to research universities, including in the European Union. While there, they will present information on the US grants system and will learn about policies and practices at their host institution. NCURA’s members are organised into seven different geographically based regions which encompass all states in the USA, plus an eighth region that encompasses any member based outside the US. The organisation of these regions allows for a more close‐knit and vibrant community within the larger NCURA community. Each region then hosts its own Regional Meeting annually, coordinated by the region leadership.
