Successes in communicating NANO

26. Jun. 2012

The FP7 funded project NANOCHANNELS – engaging European stakeholders in debating NANOtechnology issues using a range of media CHANNELS – concluded it’s activities in June

NANOCHANNELS concluded it’s activities in June with the following success stories:

  • 2.1 million of copies of 5 press supplements on nanotechnology were distributed (published by The Guardian (UK), El Mundo (Spain), Corriere della Sera (Italy).
  • More than 2000 participants and 60 experts attended live events all over Europe where nano issues were debated.
  • 20 student-led school debates on critical nano topics were realized in 11 countries.
  • The Italian radio TiConUno broadcasted more than 100 minutes of content related to nano controversies.
  • 17 relevant social media groups – which received thousands of likes or comments – were founded.
  • More than 10.000 entries were collected in talk-backs and forums.
  • At least 20 NGOs from different disciplines participated in the project activities and events.

As a last step, three interconnected roadmaps for public engagement in nanotechnologies through (1) media, (2) education and (3) other support activities will be developed.
