Document analysis provides orientation in a subject area and is often the starting point for more methodologically specific approaches, such as discourse analysis or qualitative content analysis. Documents can be very diverse and also include archive material, images, informal texts, minutes, accounts, grey literature and much more. Document analyses are a central method of empirical social science research.
