Indicator Development

The Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) offers expertise in the development of reliable indicators for different societal problems and fields, such as Public Sector Innovation or Workplace Innovation. Valid indicators help organisations and projects to measure the success of a particular activity. Accordingly, choosing the right indicators relies upon a good understanding of what is important to the organisation, programme, or project. The assessments often lead to the identification of potential improvements and hereafter to recommendations for executives and political stakeholder.

ZSI today is not only a demanded methodically sound knowledge producer, but also partner for advancing methodological developments. Examples are

  • involvement in establishing the new European Innovation Scoreboard with emphasis on measuring Public Sector Innovation and Workplace Innovation through relevant, reliable and valid indicators
  • a development project carried out on behalf of the City of Vienna to establish indicators measuring the level of integration of migrants
  • the development of an indicator-based tool for assessing the economic and technological effects of e-Infrastructures supported by DG Research and Innovation or
  • a study to develop, systematise and critically comment indicators to measure the internationalisation of R&D by order of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research, and Economy
