The project examines the structural development of Vienna’s labour market with a focus on future growth industries, regional differences and the increasing importance of migrant-owned businesses. The aim is to create a sound basis for decision-making for a tailored labour market policy and economic orientation at district level.
The first part of the project analyses demographic trends, economic structures, and employment and business dynamics in Vienna. Based on extensive secondary data and existing forecasts, it identifies those sectors that show particular growth potential in the coming years. The analysis is conducted on a small scale and reveals how population growth, business structures and labour demand develop and influence each other in the individual districts of Vienna.
The second part of the project focuses on the migrant economy as an increasingly relevant but hitherto underrepresented part of Vienna’s business landscape. Through literature reviews and qualitative interviews with experts, intermediaries and entrepreneurs, perceptions, experiences and obstacles in contact with public institutions are examined. The focus is on structural, potential barriers and existing support needs in personnel recruitment and qualification.
The results of both parts of the project will be combined and reflected upon together with relevant stakeholders. Based on this, concrete, actionable recommendations will be developed that will help to better adapt regional offerings to future industry developments and target businesses more effectively.
