Three phases can be distinguished in the analysis of qualitative data: (i) data preparation or transcription, (ii) analysis and (iii) systematisation of the results of this analysis. Analysis procedures correspond to what is usually understood by analytical methods (such as coding, content analysis or discourse analysis). Systematisation (e.g. through type formation or visualisation) is particularly useful if the results are very extensive and therefore difficult to understand (Hussy, Schreier, Echterhoff 2010).
