Case studies

A case study describes and explores an object of investigation in its real environment. An attempt is made to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the object of investigation by including as many variables recognised as relevant as possible. The identification of similarities and differences between cases leads to a typology, i.e. general types to which individual cases are assigned.  Different types of case studies exist, some of which differ considerably in their design.
