Dr Margit Hofer is a Senior Research and Innovation Expert at the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) in Vienna. Her work focuses on responsible research and innovation, digital transformation, and participatory approaches to sustainable socio-technical change. She investigates how emerging technologies, data-driven innovation, and new forms of collaboration can contribute to inclusive, sustainable, and socially beneficial transformations.
Margit is involved in leading European research initiatives, including Horizon Europe projects such as LAUDS Factories, EnduRAI, and DataMite. Her current research addresses open and community-driven innovation, human-centred artificial intelligence in manufacturing, data ecosystems and governance, interoperability, and pathways towards sustainable industrial transformation.
With an interdisciplinary background spanning digitalisation, science and innovation policy, education, and social innovation, Margit combines empirical research with participatory methods and stakeholder engagement. Her expertise lies in bridging technological developments, research and innovation policies, and societal needs, supporting transdisciplinary collaborations and the development of inclusive innovation ecosystems across Europe.
