STRATEGIC FORESIGHT: A VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF EUROPE

The EU as a new global actor and the role of civil society

Section: Institut

Date: 1. February 2022

This event aims at starting a reflection on strategic foresight, especially concerning the relationships between Europe and the rest of the world.

With strategic autonomy at the centre of the current political debate in the European Union and its Member States, it has become increasingly important for civil society to have its say on the process of Europe becoming more autonomous in the defence of its interests and values while at the same time promoting a rules-based international order and working with global partners to promote peace, security and prosperity for all.
This is why the External Relations Section of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) starts a reflection on strategic foresight, especially concerning the relationships between Europe and the rest of the world. The goal is to bring together EU Institutions and prominent experts in the field to discuss foresight in a multipolar world.

Klaus Schuch, ZSI, provides an input on the Western Balkans, particularly based on the foresight study on "Strategic Foresight in the Western Balkans: Recovery on the Horizon", which ZSI, Technopolis and DLR (coordinator) implemented on behalf of DG Research and Innovation.

A webstream for the general public will be organised.
