Work and Research Focus

Jesse de Pagter is a Researcher & Project Manager at ZSI. Through his career he has specialised in the social and political dimensions of emerging technologies, for instance through his doctoral degree,  which investigated how speculative narratives shape public trust in automation. At ZSI he mainly contributes to Horizon Europe projects, by working on topics like transformative social innovation, stakeholder engagement and the embedding of ethical and societal values into technical R&D.

Beyond his work at ZSI, Jesse lectures on ethics and responsible innovation for students at TU Wien and regularly shares insights through conference papers, focusing on how future technologists can navigate the societal stakes of their inventions.

Driven by a commitment to inclusive, anticipatory governance of technology, Jesse works to ensure that emerging innovations are developed and deployed in ways that strengthen social equity, democratic participation and environmental well‑being.
