This brochure presents practical recommendations for building responsible and inclusive digital food systems that prioritize data sovereignty, user trust, and transparent design. Developed through the FOODITY project in collaboration with pilot beneficiaries and stakeholders, it addresses the growing challenges posed by data-driven innovation in nutrition and food technologies.
The document is structured around four core areas: data sovereignty and trust, inclusive app development, data-based nutrition systems and data sharing practices, and policy actions. These recommendations emerged from hands-on experiences of FOODITY-supported start-up teams, cross-checked against academic literature and validated through field expertise. The collaborative development process included an interactive online workshop that refined and targeted the final recommendations.
The brochure serves two primary audiences: developers and innovators creating digital solutions in the food and nutrition sector, and policy makers and regulatory authorities shaping the frameworks for these technologies. It provides a roadmap for ensuring that digital food systems empower individuals to maintain control of their data while supporting meaningful societal benefits through trustworthy, user-driven innovation.
