SIP talks provide a forum for discussing current projects, topics and research findings with national and international experts and for engaging in dialogue with FORWIT.
The presentation titled ‘How to foster trust in science in complex times?’ meticulously introduced the rationale and implementation logic of the project before providing more detail on its innovative, socially inclusive methods and its final set of recommendations (called VERITY Protocol).
Two methods were highlighted that both engaged citizens and civil society representatives within project activities:
(1) the vignette study validated the most relevant strategies, such as co-creation, benefit sharing, science communication and social media use, to foster societal trust with two diverse groups of stakeholder, namely young, urban and older, rural people;
(2) the citizen media experiment helped validate concrete recommendations in terms of feasibility, clarity and relevance.
The audience were introduced to the interactive online VERITY Protocol tool and the complementary scenario-building tool where interested stakeholders have the chance to get acquainted with all recommendations in a user-friendly way through two entry points, namely six strategies and eight stakeholder groups.
The presentation was followed by an engaging question round where comments in various topics were discussed, for instance on the potential policy impact of the project, on the engagement of potentially malign stakeholders, such as influencers within project activities, on the definition of trust in terms of scientific production or on the feasibility of certain recommendations such as new assessments of academic career paths.
The presentation and further details are available on the FORWIT SIP Talk website.
