The annual Forum 2000 conference is a globally recognised event held in Prague that brings together world leaders, thinkers, and experts to address fundamental challenges facing democracies, human rights, and the international order. Established in 1997 by Václav Havel, Elie Wiesel, and Yohei Sasakawa, its mission is to foster open dialogue about key issues such as conflict, globalization, and the resilience of democracy in a rapidly changing world.
For this year’s 29th edition (October 12-14, in Prague), ZSI, for the first time, is an official programme partner. Other partners include the International Visegrad Fund, National Endowment for Democracy, Robert Bosch Stiftung, EaP Eastern Partnership, the EU or Reporters without Borders to name only a few.
Under the conference’s thematic and regional focus, ZSI organises a scenario-building workshop on the future of Sino-European research and innovaton cooperation. The workshop takes place on Monday, 13 October, from 15:45-17:00 in the Oswaldo Payá Hall. Gábor Szüdi and Philipp Brugner will introduce their five policy recommendations towards improving the resilience of European R&I institions in their cooperation with China in the light of research security (based on research done in the ReConnect China project). The workshop’s goal is to co-design a most feasible scenario for the implementation of each recommendation, drawing on the active contributions made by experts taking part in the workshop. An article (co-authored by Gábor Szüdi, Philipp Brugner and Pamela Bartar) about this process is planned to be submitted to the forthcoming Journal of Asian Public Policy (JAPP) special issue ““Towards Resilient China–Europe Science and Higher Education Cooperation under Geopolitical Challenges.”
