2nd European Science Diplomacy Conference 2025 in preparation
The European Science Diplomacy Conference 2025, held under the auspices of the Danish EU Council Presidency, brings together policymakers, diplomats, researchers, academies, funding organisations and civil-society actors to advance the emerging European Science Diplomacy Framework. The programme combines high-level plenaries with region- and theme-specific parallel sessions that address oceans, polar and space diplomacy, as well as the governance, ethics and societal dimensions of science diplomacy. With active contributions from the European Science Diplomacy Alliance, of which ZSI is a founding member, the conference consolidates Europe’s growing community of practice and creates momentum for coordinated implementation of the Framework.
The event is supported by the Global Service Facility, within which ZSI leads specific contracts designed to further science diplomacy. These activities are coordinated by our colleague Charlotte Rungius, who provides analytical and organisational support.
The conference can be followed online without registration: https://eu-science-diplomacy.service-facility.eu/en/webstreaming
Advanced Training Course on Science Diplomacy successfully concluded in Trieste
As part of the 2025–26 Work Programme of the European Science Diplomacy Alliance and on the initiative of its current co-chairs—the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Trieste—and co-organised with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, an advanced training course entitled “Challenges and Perspectives of Science Diplomacy in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe” took place in Trieste and Gorizia on 25–28 November. ZSI colleague Elke Dall delivered one of the introductory lectures to around 30 participants from across the region, including diplomats, public officials, scientists, research managers and students.
Across these events, we build on the scientific coordination underpinning the Global Service Facility contracts and on our active participation and secretarial role within the European Science Diplomacy Alliance, which regularly organises both online and in-person activities.
