Call for human-centred research and innovation

A human-centric approach and societal focus should be the guiding principles for the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) and other EU’s funding programmes. That was a core message to emerge from the Human Values and Grand Challenges conference, which explored how human values and social sciences, arts and humanities (SSAH) can be translated into policy and practice (see Science Business article).

The conference was hosted by Aalborg University in collaboration with University of Southern Denmark and Copenhagen Business School in December 2025 in Copenhagen as part of Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During the event, academia, policymakers and industry came together to discuss how to achieve human-centric research and innovation (R&I) and why SSAH are indispensable in this process.

Klaus Schuch from ZSI was member of the Advisory Board of this conference and contributed to the policy recommendations, which can be downloaded below (or accessed here).
