Constructive technology assessment (cTA) aims to democratise socio-technical innovation processes by involving stakeholders and potential users directly in development processes (hence also known as ‘real-time technology assessment’). This creates space for joint, results-open development. It enables reflection on how to continuously improve technologies and increase their acceptance, as well as identify alternative innovation pathways. Together with participatory technology assessment, which promotes the involvement of citizens, cTA complements more traditional, expertise-based methods of technology assessment.
