Citizen Science is widely understood as a participatory way of doing research. The active participation of non-researchers in scientific processes has gained popularity and has become an integral part of Open Science. The range of types of participation, social opportunities, technologies in use, approaches to data validation, ways to measure contribution, and project goals that we encounter today in Citizen Science is impressive. ZSI, a forerunner in Citizen Science, approaches it from a theoretical and practical side: from evaluation and impact assessment to co-designing concrete Citizen Science actions to address societal challenges.
