Elke Dall brought the perspective of CUSP and the European science diplomacy community into the panel moderated by Jean-Christophe Mauduit of University College London. CUSP was highlighted as a good example of coordination between European and global efforts: UNESCO is a project partner and leads its work on global perspectives and partnerships, including regional dialogues with Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. This partnership offers a practical basis for jointly shaping activities and connecting European networks with expertise and priorities from other regions.
Before this panel discussion, key interventions included representatives of the European Commission: Jan Marco Müller presented the EU Framework for Science Diplomacy, while Silvia Bojinova addressed the rationale for a future UNESCO Decision on Science Diplomacy. Their contributions focused attention on translating the European framework into wider international engagement, strengthening EU–UNESCO cooperation and identifying how European experience can support global efforts without losing sight of different regional contexts and priorities.
The exchange underlined the importance of linking policy frameworks with the research and practitioner communities that help put science diplomacy into practice. For ZSI, participation offered an opportunity to position CUSP within this wider dialogue and highlight its role in connecting institutions, networks and regional perspectives in support of more coordinated science diplomacy.
