Work and research focus:

  • Project Communication: Traditional (website, online platform, surveys, press releases etc.) and new forms of communication (social media targeted communication, social media analysis etc.)
  • International Cooperation in Research & Development with non EU-MS (in particular Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia)
  • Training and capacity building in EU project management (Horizon 2020)
  • Support in the proposal writing and submission process for EU funded programmes (Horizon 2020)
  • Assessment of international research cooperation patterns through bibliometric analysis
  • Regional focus on EU-Eastern Partnership Countries, Russia, Central Asia and Southeast Asia

Education and career:

Philipp BRUGNER is Project Manager, Communications Manager and R&I policy expert at the Centre for Social Innovation GmbH (ZSI) in Vienna, Austria. He received a Master's degree in Slavic Studies/Russian (Magister/M.A. in 2013) and a Bachelor's in Political Sciences/Eastern European Politics (B.A. in 2011) from the University of Vienna and the Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg. In 2018 he continued his academic education with a specialised course on Public Policy Economics at the University of Oxford's department for continuing education. His main academic research interests revolved around the political landscape of post-soviet states, Russian political nationalism and the transformation of urban agglomerations in post-soviet cities.

At ZSI Mr. Brugner is mainly engaged in communication and analytical activities with a geographical focus on the EU-Eastern Partnership Countries, Russia and Ukraine. Before joining ZSI, he was working as a freelance journalist for Austrian and German newspapers, followed by a position as a scientific assistant for a project on Russian oil workers at the Department of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna. Some short period of time Mr. Brugner spent also at the International Organization for Migration’s Regional Office in Vienna, working on migration related issues in Russia and Central Asia. Between 10/2016 and 06/2020 he was a Young European Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership countries. Since April 2018 Philipp Brugner is a member of the youth board of the Policy Crossover Center (PCC): Vienna - Europe, an Austrian think tank on EU affairs, and writes on EU topics for print and online media (Der Standard, Die Presse, Wiener Zeitung, EURACTIV).

Education:

- Degrees in Political Science/Eastern European Politics (BA in 2011) and Slavic Studies/Russian (Mag./MA in 2013) from the University of Vienna

- Further academic education in Public Policy Economics at University of Oxford/Department for Continuing Education from 09-12/2018

- Intensive study of Russian at Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg (2011)
