The organized workshop will provide an overview of current work in the field of IMS Learning Design. A number of presentations will be carried out on the following topics:

  • Development of LD tools and architectures, eg, editors, content management systems, runtime engines.

  • Advanced applications of LD (eg, in gaming, collaborative learning, competence development, ePortfolios)

  • Research to evaluate the ability of the LD specification to integrate the following criteria: completeness, pedagogical flexibility, personalization, re usability, formalization, etc.

  • Evaluations of the use of LD in practice, including the integration of a variety of specifications in a learning environment

  • Studies defining the current state-of-the-art in learning design, or positioning LD in the wider context of learning, training and instruction

Papers accepted for presentation at the first workshop will be published in the Special Issue on Learning Design of the IEEE journal Educational Technology Society. There will also be a number of presentations besides and always focused on the current state of LD.
