A participatory governance model for developing age-friendly environments in practice

The TAAFE project (funded under Interreg Alpine Space) celebrated its final results in June 2022 in Treviso and Feldbach.

The TAAFE model - a participatory framework for developing an age-friendly environment that can be adopted by the public authorities of the Alpine Space - was tested in the five pilot sites of the project: Treviso, Italy; Mössingen, Germany; Feldbach, Austria; Marseille, France; and Žiri, Slovenia. The activities carried out in the TAAFE area clearly demonstrated the importance of building age-friendly environments fostering long-term participation, inclusiveness, and recognition of senior citizens.

The main strength of the TAAFE project has been its efficacy in supporting elderly associations and strengthening awareness and connections with the main groups of stakeholders that address the problems of the elderly, also at institutional level, while identifying and raising awareness on the needs and wants of senior citizens.

The Austrian pilot site in Feldbach chose the priority action "Together Active". The aim was to foster intergenerational dialogue and social inclusion of older adults through being active together in nature. The final products - a hiking guide for persons of all ages and a board with exercises for mobilisation and stretching in the city park - were presented in a public event in Feldbach on June 15th. Representatives of the city administration and the mayor emphasized the valuable contribution of the project to age-friendliness in Feldbach. More important than the product is however the impact of a 2-year long participatory governance process on all engaged stakeholders in the region.

A good quick insight in the TAAFE model is presented in this video.

On the TAAFE youtube channel you can watch videos on the pilot sites.
