19. Nov. 2019
On 15th of November 2019, the HERAS project, funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation, organised a Roundtable & Workshop with the topic “Status quo of Research and Innovation development in Kosovo: Thoughts for Kosovo’s future R&I”. The event gathered more than 50 participants coming from governmental institutions, international organizations in Kosovo, higher education and research institutions, NGOs, researchers, and international and local experts. His excellency, Ambassador Weidinger and the General Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo, Mr. Kastrati, opened the event which then was followed with presentations from Austria, Montenegro, and Kosovo.
The main purpose of the event though, was launching and discussing of the report on 'Mapping Research and Innovation System in Kosovo' which can be accessed at the following link. This report is an attempt to provide a picture of the present R&I system in Kosovo, including the challenges and gaps it actually has. The Roundtable provided a forum of discussion on key challenges that the Research and Innovation System in Kosovo is facing. In addition, the workshop provided space for a multi-stakeholder dialogue to reflect on potential future steps which the Government of Kosovo could take in order to enhance the R&I system in Kosovo and to facilitate the integration of the country in the European Research Area (ERA). HERAS will provide conclusions of this event in a policy brief with measures and steps to follow up on the new strategy on R&I. This paper will be presented to the forthcoming Government and modalities of following up their implementation will be sought.
