Europe and China: whose future are we heading towards?

European Youth Parliament Austria event on EU's relations with China

Section: Research Policy & Development

Date: 14. April 2021

The European Youth Parliament Austria is the Austrian chapter of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) in Europe. The EYP is one of the largest platforms for political debate, intercultural encounters, European civic education and the exchange of ideas for young people in Europe.

On April 14 the EYP Austria hosts the European Future Forum on the topic "Europe and China: whose future are we heading towards?" online.

Over the course of this English-language programme lasting from 9:00 to 13:00 CEST, organisers offer a crash course on the EU and its functioning in regard to foreign policy, an expert talk on the EU's relations with China and discussions about possible solutions within smaller groups among the participants.

During the expert talk Philipp Brugner will share some of his observations on the current surge in demanding an European knowledge autonomy vis-à-vis China coming from EU policy-making circles. In the forthcoming Horizon Europe programme, it is expected that there is a specific call addressing this topic and that requests solutions to minimise the identified knowledge gaps in Europe in view of China. The expert input will reflect, i.a., on a concept note currently developed under the leadership of ZSI and the Clingendael Institute for this prospective call.
