Labour market effects and social impact of technological transformation, globalisation and demographic change

The UNTANGLED project will host a one-day conference in Brussels on November 9, 2022, addressing the impacts on (EU) labour markets – including skills demand and supply, job quality and working conditions – from the global megatrends of technological transformation, globalization, and demographic ageing. Social outcomes related to labour market outcomes, such as inequality and well-being, will also be discussed.

Researchers from all social science fields are invited to contribute and participate. We welcome contributions addressing the implications of technological transformation, globalization, and demographic change for one or more of the following issues:

  • Heterogenous impact on labour market outcomes
  • Work-related migration & skills
  • Education and future skill needs, productivity growth
  • (Regional / Rural-urban) Convergence / divergence, EU economic governance, trade

UNTANGLED is a three-year interdisciplinary Horizon 2020 research project that seeks to examine the interconnected trends of globalisation, demographic change and technological transformation, and their effects on labour markets in the European Union and beyond. By engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including companies and civil society organisations, we will develop practical policy proposals to help governments cushion the negative impacts of these trends and ensure their benefits are enjoyed fairly across regions and sectors.
