Fostering Bioeconomy in the Danube Region

15. Mai 2017

Event by Danube-INCO.NET on 19th May, in Trieste - Italy

The main scope of this "capitalization workshop organised by the Danube-INCO.NET within its task 3.3 is to build upon and further develop the inputs collected during the implementation of Pilot Activities, entitled respectively:

  • “Towards a Danube bioeconomy RTI strategy for appropriate regional added value Chains”, implemented by ZSI with main partners BOKU, BIOS Science Austria and ICA CASEE;
  • “Building a Bioeconomy Research and Advocacy Network in the Danube Region (DANUBIONET)”, implemented by CEI and Pannon Pro Innovations Ltd.

The results of the Pilot Activities have been distilled into two Position Papers, which include a number of recommendations for the development of bioeconomy in the Danube Region, addressing governance, financial and RTI needs. The purpose of the Capitalization Workshop is to elaborate further on these recommendations in order to:

  • Consolidate these inputs into a comprehensive paper, which may further evolve into a “Policy Brief”, representing Danube-INCO.NET contribution/position to triggering a bioeconomy debate in the Danube Region;
  • Establish a cross-sectoral (Triple Helix) network of bioeconomy stakeholders from the Danube Region;
  • Draft a mid-term roadmap to foster the bioeconomy in the Danube Region beyond the duration of Danube-INCO.NET, which will finish on 30.06.2017.

About 15 people are expected to attend the event, the majority of which are external stakeholders already involved in the above-mentioned Pilot Activities or having a specific expertise/interest in bioeconomy.

The main output will be a consolidated set of recommendations focused on the development of bioeconomy in the Danube Region, built upon the results achieved by Danube-INCO.NET Pilot Activities.
