INDIGO projects showcased results in Closing Event in Ghent, Belgium
30. Apr 2017
More than 50 participants including scientists, policy makers and STI organisations and science funding agencies attended the Final Showcasing Event which was held at the Het Pand Convention Centre in Ghent, Belgium. The conference marked a final milestone of three and half successful years: The INNO INDIGO and INDIGO POLICY projects, which were launched in 2013, brought together a multilevel group of stakeholders from Europe and India in order to strengthen STI collaboration. The European Union – India Joint Declaration on Research and Innovation Cooperation (2012) was an important step in boosting cooperation. Since then, this cooperation and strategic partnership has increased and has been strengthened over the time. By now India and the EU have become important research and innovation partners: The Final Showcasing Event presented a wide range of outcomes of both projects as well as expert perspectives.
The first session in the morning focused on the achievements of INNO INDIGO & INDIGO POLICY as instruments for the enhancement of multilateral EU-India STI cooperation since 2013. The projects showcased some of their key achievements and how they contributed to develop the Indo-European STI cooperation:

The second session in the afternoon discussed Indo-European STI cooperation in the broader context of international STI cooperation. The panellists reflected on how India and Europe reinforced the strategic partnership, exploring new routes and areas of strategic collaboration. Experts from both sides discussed a bundle of questions in their presentations and in the final panel discussion in the afternoon. They shared their views on strategic ways to move forward, for example:
- What are the specific achievements of this cooperation for India and the EU compared to other partners regions in the world?
- How can the untapped potential be harnessed?
