Aim of the workshop and Who should attend:

The workshop aims at getting an overview of status quo with regard to networking of scientific diaspora from SEE countries as well as regarding their use of ICTs for cooperation with their countries of origin.

Another important aim of the workshop is to raise awareness among

  • RTD & HE policy makers,
  • development cooperation experts and
  • others dealing with scientific diaspora issues

from SEE region about the great potentials of innovative use of ICT in activities aiming at utilisation of human capital of scientific diaspora for the socio-economic development and for the strengthening of human capacities of scientific landscape of SEE countries.

The workshop will be of an exploratory nature, looking at opportunities for joint project development in EU RTD Framework programmes and/or Official Development Aassistance funding schemes as well as for projects on national level with national (cross-sectoral) funding. In addition to these practical goals the workshop has the goal of laying the foundation for a (UNESCO, to be confirmed) publication on the issue of ICT and scientific diaspora in SEE which shall combine scientific analysis with hands-on experience and policy recommendations.

This workshop is funded by Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research.
