In the framework of the VERA project - Forward Visions on the European Research Area (ERA), the so called ERA Fabric Map has been developed. It aims at displaying the current setup of ERA, its procedures and mechanisms and relates its six dimensions (according to the ERA Green Paper) to the Europe 2020 strategy.

As a starting point for the implementation of the VERA project, this picture of ERA’s present supports the subsequent development of alternative future scenarios for ERA’s evolution. The ERA Fabric Map also analyses the involvement of stakeholders in several existing ERA instruments by using a taxonomy of stakeholder roles and functions.

During the VERA project the initial mapping will be updated twice, with its findings used as an input for the project’s communication plan and for the continuation of the VERA project work plan.

The ERA Fabric Map is jointly developed by the JRC-IPTS, Fraunhofer ISI and ZSI.
