An S4D4C and Union for the Mediterranean Joint Event

Bereich: Forschungspolitik & Entwicklung

Datum: 15. - 16. Dezember 2020

On 15th and 16th December, the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean and the ZSI-coordinated Horizon 2020 project S4D4C organise a joint online Workshop on Science and Innovation Diplomacy. The event marks the 25th anniversary since the Barcelona Declaration stated that “science and technology have a significant influence on socioeconomic development” of the Euro-Mediterranean region. Registration is open until December 13th.

The main objective of the workshop is to showcase and reinforce the state of science and innovation diplomacy in the Euro- Mediterranean region, and to discuss its role in achieving the commitment of UfM Ministers to “knowledge creation” as a means to “sustainable growth and decent job creation for the region, by capitalizing on achieved results and best practices including through removing barriers, promoting brain circulation, avoiding duplication, reducing fragmentation and promoting integration, while fostering gender equality and research ethics”.

On December 15th, the sessions elaborate on how global challenges are tackled in the world post Covid-19 and bring foresight into R&I policy. The discussion is steered by a panel of experts from academia, national administrations and international organizations. The event is open to the public.

On December 16th, a more practical approach is used and participants have the opportunity to delve into the science diplomacy concept and to work together on a common understanding of science diplomacy for the Euro-Mediterranean region. This event is open for a limited number of participants.
