KORANET publishes 'Korea and Europe Meeting through science'

A compendium of EU-Korean S&T cooperation

Section: Research Policy & Development

The new KORANET publication 'Korea and Europe - Meeting through science' was presented for the first time to a wider audience at the KORANET workshop ‘Results and perspectives - Paving the way for future S&T cooperation with South Korea’ held in Brussels on 29 June 2011. The event brought together about 50 representatives from research ministries, funding agencies and programme owners from 14 European countries and South Korea as well as from the European Commission and the OECD. The objective of the workshop was to present the status quo of EU-Korean cooperation, thus setting the framework for the discussions concerning the future of this cooperation and the launch of the second KORANET Joint Call for proposals planned for the beginning of 2012.

The new KORANET publication summarises the content and results of all analytical reports that have been prepared by the KORANET project  in the past 2.5 years. It is targeted at major S&T stakeholders in Europe and Korea, including researchers, research institutions and funding agencies, policy makers at national and international level, cluster managers and all those involved or interested in S&T cooperation or international collaboration.

The publication is divided into seven main chapters which address:

  • Outstanding features of the Korean and European S&T systems
  • A short overview of relevant S&T statistics of both regions
  • An overview of the main policy instruments for S&T cooperation at bilateral and EU level
  • An analysis of the drivers and barriers of cooperation
  • S&T clusters and the opportunities they offer for cooperation
  • An introduction to the activities of KORANET (including the 2010 KORANET Pilot Joint Call for European-Korean research projects)
  • Conclusions and recommendations for further cooperation.

The KORANET publication 'Korea and Europe - Meeting through science' is available either as pdf version at www.koranet.eu or in print through sending a request to koranet@dlr.de.
