The Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) is offering a research position for around 30 hours as of 1 October 2021.

ZSI is a private non-profit institute for applied social sciences based in Vienna (Austria). At ZSI we implement projects on the social embedding and impact of all types of innovations and contribute to the design and diffusion of socially accepted and sustainable innovations to meet global challenges. You should have knowledge of and interest in the thematic areas of energy transition and societal transformation; research, technology and innovation policy; knowledge-based regional development; and European policies and programmes in these fields. Furthermore, you have already gained initial experience in (international) project work, project acquisition and applied research.

Scope of your work:

  • Implementation of international research and innovation projects on sustainability and energy transition in Europe (e.g., H2020 project Entrances)
  • Collaboration and communication with international project partners in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative research on innovation and societal transformation in particular on the energy transition
  • Drafting, preparation and submission of project deliverables, project reports and scientific articles
  • Organisation of project related meetings and stakeholder events
  • Project acquisition and project proposal development 

Our expectations:

You are communicative, self-organised, accurate and reliable. You show a high level of interest in our areas of expertise. You have the following skills and qualifications: 

  • At least Master degree in Social, Political or Economic Sciences, or Social Ecology, Environmental Economics, Environmental Sociology or similar
  • At least 3 years' experience in research /applied research, ideally in international research project context 
  • Excellent working proficiency in English, ability to draft project deliverables and scientific articles 
  • Connectivity with the topic area of energy transition and societal transformation
  • Solid knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social sciences
  • Ability to work independently

Other languages as well as knowledge of software tools for social sciences (e.g., STATA/R/Python/SPSS) and experience abroad are an advantage.

Start date: 1 October 2021  
Hours of work: 30 h/week 
Type of contract: Limited 1-year contract (with possibility for extension)
Minimum wage (gross; depending on previous professional experience):  2161,72 € (2882,30 € for 40h/week)
