ZSI presents its initiatives at the kick-off of the Steering Platform on Research for Western Balkan Countries

28. Jun. 2006

Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Research and Science addressed the participants of the Launch Event which took place on 26th June, 2006 in Vienna by acknowledging SEE-ERA.NET, coordinated by Peter Mayr at the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI): “I cannot stress enough how important is the coordination of national policies that help creating synergies. I count on SEE-ERA.NET to continue to play this leading role and help the Steering Platform in its work.” (see attachment)
The Steering Platform has the function to bring stakeholders from Southeast Europe and the European Union, as well as Associated countries together and to steer the process of international RTD cooperation with the Westbalkan countries. Participants of the first meeting included representatives of the European Commission (DG JRC, DG Research, including the Director of the International Scientific Cooperation's Directorate), from the Member States and Candidate Countries as well as the Western Balkan Countries.
An important support for the implementation of the Platform will be the “Information Office of the Steering Platform on Research” which is also coordinated by the ZSI. It will provide support to disseminate the existing know-how within the Platform through structured "Documentation and Communication Services" and to carry out targeted studies providing up-to-date analysis on specific issues addressed by the Steering Platform. For any further information on the Information Office of the Steering Platform www.see-science.eu and to register for the quarterly newsletter please contact: Ms. Elke Dall, dall@zsi.at.
