Ausbildung und beruflicher Werdegang:
Mag. Barbara Kieslinger, geboren 1970 in Schärding OÖ, erlangte ihren akademischen Grad nach Absolvierung des Lehramtsstudiums Englisch und Spanisch an der Universität Wien. Vor und während ihres Studiums verbracht sie längere Zeit in den USA und in Spanien (ERASMUS, SOKRATES, LEONARDO). Ihre berufliche Erfahrung sammelte vor allem in ihrer Tätigkeit als Projektmitarbeiterin in europäischen Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekten bei den spanischen Firmen Atlante und Sema Group, wo sie eine eigene Gruppe leitete. Ihre Projekte beschäftigten sich vor allem mit neuen Kommunikationstechnologien. 2001 arbeitete sie im BIT als National Contact Point für des EU-Programm TEN-Telecom und war in der Abteilung Austria ONE für die Koordination neuer strategischer Kooperationsprojekte zuständig. Zu ihren Hauptaufgaben bei der TEN-Telecom Betreuung zählten die Beratung potentieller Projektteilnehmer an TEN-Telecom Projekten sowie die Entwicklung und das Management von Telekommunikationsprojekten, die eine Kooperation zwischen Universitäten, Forschungseinrichtungen und der Industrie in den Bereichen Bildung und Gesundheitswesen fördern. Von September 2002 bis Mai 2005 leitet sie das Forschungsprojekt ELENA. Durch die Übergabe des Projekts an das ZSI ist Barbara Kieslinger seit Jänner 2003 beim ZSI als Projektleiterin und Bereichsleiterin tätig. Derzeit konzentriert sich ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt in Projekt iCamp auf die Unterstützung sozialer Netzwerkbildung durch IT im Hochschulbereich.

(2006). iCamp: The Educational Web for Higher Education in an Enlarged Europe. eChallenges e-2006, Barcelona, Spain, October 25-27, 2006 Abstract: European higher education has started to successfully implement technology enhanced learning strategies. The level of uptake varies however substantially between institutions and countries. Regarding the technical solutions, a similary heterogeneous picture can be drawn. Whereas the variety of commercially licensed and open source systems currently in use responds to different needs of the users, this technical diversity faces the drawback of restricted data exchange possilities across systems. A recently started initiative called "iCamp" is challenging this situation by suggesting a networked learning environment for collaboration and networking across technical, insitutional, and national borders. The aim of this new project is to connect different learning systems, services and content repositories via interoperable interfaces. From a pedagogical perspective the project is focusing on scaffolding self-directed learning, collaboration and social networking across national borders.

  The paper addresses the main activities and findings of an EU based initiative for provision of interoperability of eLearning systems in the enlarged EU. The initiative is a project named iCamp1. The project is based on the current research results in several finished and on-going projects such as the Network of Excellence in Professional Learning - PROLEARN. As several surveys of the eLearning market have shown the abundance of eLearning systems that are difficult to be interconnected and used in various environments the need for system interoperability rose. The problem of interconnectivity is especially important for learning resource repositories intended for the widest audience in Europe and worldwide. The paper provides a short insight into the technical, pedagogical and collaborative learning approaches taken within the iCamp initiative.
• iCamp - The Educational Web for Higher Education (2006): Kieslinger, B., Wild, F., Arsun, O. (2006): iCamp - The Educational Web for Higher Education. First European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning Conferenc. EC-TEL 2006, Crete, Greece, October 1-4, 2006 Abstract:
  iCamp is an EC-funded research project in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) that aims to support collaboration and social networking across systems, countries and disciplines in higher education. The concept of an iCamp Space will build on existing interfaces and integrate shared community features. Interoperability amongst different open source learning systems and tools is the key to successful sustainability of iCamp. The content for this collaboration within social communities is provided via distributed networked repositories including, for example, content brokerage platforms, online libraries, and learning object databases. The innovative pedagogical model of iCamp is based on social constructivist learning theories. iCamp creates an environment for a new way of social networking in higher education that puts more emphasis on self-organised, self-directed learning, social networking and cross-cultural collaboration.

  The paper focuses on an important part in the conceptual development of the virtual learning campus that will be implementation in the FP6 IST project iCamp, co-financed by the European Commission. User stories are collected in order to ensure one aspect of quality assurance in the iCamp sapce development process. With the data and the information recorded in user stories collected from different European institutions, it is possible to contibute to the design of a user and customer oriented interactive virutal collaborative and learning space. However, to reach best possible applicability of the information encoded in user stories, it is necessary to prepare the most careful outline for user stories, and to ensure a broad scope of stories with applicable and measurable preferences. The paper focuses on the methodology used in the scientific project tot collect user stories and presents the experiences perceived by the project team, as well as the intermediate results, problems encountered and recommendations in order to improve the process.

  Although the Internet offers worldwide data exchange possiblities e-learning experiences so far have been to a large extent carried out locally, regionally and nationally. The technical infrastructure available today holds a variety of means to support internatinal collaboration. However, cross-cultural learning experiences spanning over natinoal borders are still rather few. In this paper we will present the design approach that a European research group is following in a joint project on cross-national e-learning in higher education.

  While we are currently witnessing the renaissance of Tim Berners-Lee's original vision for a Two-Way-Web, many institutions in higher education still develop and maintain landscapes of tools and services that largely ignore the ongoing power-shift towards the individual. This paper argues that these institutional landscapes need to be reorganised and changed into "augmented landscapes", in which the application of individually selected and maintained, multi-purpose tools and services becomes possible. Some implications for individuals and institutions in higher education are discussed.
